Combine your love for animals with the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Sri Lanka! Our volunteering programme invites international volunteers, veterinary students, animal trainers, and animal lovers (minimum age: 18) to make a real difference in the lives of rescued animals while experiencing a meaningful and rewarding adventure.
Volunteer Activities
Our shelter is home to nearly 500 dogs and 28 cats, cared for by a passionate team and supported by a well-equipped veterinary facility. Nestled on a lush 2½-acre green estate, the Animal Wellness Trust Sri Lanka (AWTSL) offers comfortable accommodations for volunteers. While there is no fee to participate, donations are always welcome. A minimum stay of two weeks is required to join our programme.

Feeding & Cleaning
You will assist the staff in feeding the dogs twice a day, starting at 6am, and help with cleaning bowls, cages, and the shelter area to maintain a hygienic environment for the animals.
Love & Care
You will bathe, groom, and interact with the dogs and cats, providing them with emotional support and socialisation, as well as taking the dogs on walks along the beach.
Social Media
As a volunteer, you'll help maintain the shelter's social media by creating and scheduling posts, sharing photos and videos, and engaging with the online community. Your efforts will help raise awareness, promote initiatives, and grow our online presence to support animal welfare.
Accomodation
Volunteers stay in comfortable rooms with attached bathroom, located on-site at the shelter. The shelter is situated approximately 45–50 minutes from Colombo city, making it a convenient yet serene place to stay.
